Confidentiality Policy

Confidentiality

 

Everything discussed in counselling is treated as confidential, in line with the BACP Ethical Framework.

 

Confidentiality may be broken only in the following circumstances:

 

* If there is serious risk of harm to you or others

* If there is concern about the safety of a child or vulnerable adult

* If required by law or court order

* If professional consultation or supervision is required (in which case no identifying details are shared)

 

Where possible, confidentiality breaches will be discussed with you before any action is taken.

Safeguarding  and Risk

If concerns arise regarding your safety or the safety of others, the counsellor may need to take appropriate steps to reduce risk, which could include contacting emergency services or relevant agencies. This will be done in accordance with ethical and legal obligations.

Data Protection and Record Keeping

Your personal data is processed in line with UK GDPR and data protection legislation.
